Have the Sham Wow and Vince become contemporary cultural icons?
As usual, I’m up early on a Sunday morning working on ideas related to personal projects that build up in my head during the week. I like to keep the TV on for background noise since there’s nothing worse than absolute silence. Anyway, I’m clicking away on the keyboard and begin to hear a Sham Wow commercial, complete with a song.
Seriously? There’s something that’s just a bit fucked up about all of this. The Sham Wow is made in Germany though, and you know they make good stuff, so I guess that sort of makes up for some of the absurdity of it all.
The creators of the song and edited Sham Wow commercial, comedy duo Rhett & Link, have created a ton of very funny clips, videos and have used their talents towards marketing efforts with several major brands. One of their other recent clips made their way around my office a few months back and you can still hear folks singing a line or two from time to time.
There’s no way I could end a post without at least mentioning Billy Mays. He was the Frank Sinatra of infomercial salesmen. Rest in peace my friend. I’m sure you’re having a good time making sure everyone’s robes are stain free and their whitest up there.
