There are very instances when two different entities come together and create something much greater than either one alone. Zima and Jolly Ranchers, Megan Fox and alcohol, peanut butter and chocolate… you see what I mean, right?
Two of my favorite artists came together to create one of my favorite albums of 2010. Tomas Kalnoky of Streetlight Manifesto and Dan Potthast of Mu330 cover 5 of each other’s songs on You By Me: Volume One.
The first 5 tracks are by Dan Potthast, as interpreted by Tom Kalnoky:
- I’ve Set Sail
- Downtown
- I Went In
- Tornado Joe
- Got Through Another One
I’ve Set Sail (video below) and Got Through Another One are the standout tracks for me, mainly because they are favorites of mine to begin with. The guitar on I’ve Set Sail is both whimsical and familiar, both in respect to Kalnoky’s style and the original version of the song.
The next 5 tracks are Kalnoky’s (all Streetlight Manifesto songs), as interpreted by Dan Potthast:
- A Moment Of Silence
- Somewhere In The Between
- Watch It Crash
- We Will Fall Together
- The Big Sleep
Even an acoustic version of Somewhere In The Between retains that anthemic feel that manages to give me chills at a live Streetlight show. If you’ve been to one, you definitely know what I mean.
You By Me: Volume One is available for order from the Pentimento Music Company.
