This is turning out to be one hell of a winter. First there was the holiday blizzard, a few smaller snow storms, and last night’s storm which has left the area in a fresh, thick blanket of white powder. New York City schools are closed (even with NYS Regents exams taking place today), which is a rare occurrence, and non-essential city staff are off as well.
According to the National Weather Service, this storm broke an 86 year old record for snowfall in January. A total of 36 inches of snow has fallen in Central Park as of 1AM, beating the previous record of 27.4 inches in 1925.
The Long Island Rail Road was experiencing significant problems this morning, giving me the chance to work from home! If there’s enough daylight left after I get my work done, I may just head outside and make a “snowpimp” in my front yard, complete with hat tipped to the side and a cane. Yeeeahhh.
